Mountains, active volcanoes, beaches, lagoons, indigenous people, tourists, locals, Guanacaste… In less than four minutes, filmmaker Patrick Pearson shows viewers the many facets of Costa Rica in a video that has achieved massive viral status across several online social networks. The short film, hosted on Vimeo, has garnered thousands of views and positive comments in just one week, and it is just one of the many viral videos produced in Costa Rica.

The video is titled “Pureza. Espiritu. Vida.” (Purity. Spirit. Life.). According to Carolina Ruiz Vega of business weekly El Financiero, this is the third short film produced by Mr. Pearson, who has visited our country three times. The video consists of a series of filmed situations carefully woven and arranged to the soundtrack of the 2011 song “Future Starts Slow” by British-American indie rock band The Kills.

Mr. Pearson introduces the video as follows:

This marks my third [cinematic] journey to Costa Rica. Each time was something different and outstanding on its own. This time out I wanted to make a concerted effort to really get intimate with the culture and individuals and their way of life. There were a number of reasons for returning with multiple end goals for the footage. Here is a little piece I put together of some of the highlights of the trip.

Mr. Pearson’s video is thus far the strongest viral video featuring Costa Rica in 2014. Previous viral videos introduced by the Costa Rica Star include Superman Flies to Guanacaste and Too Cute! Baby Sloths; as well as Gringo Pinto, Our Name is Costa Rica, and Anderson Cooper Gifts a Trip to Costa Rica. And, or course, there’s also the German tourist who documented his vacation in Costa Rica by making an impressive video collage of about 1,000 selfies last year.
