A quick summary of some achievements by different Costa Ricans:

Ana Corrales, currently the Chief Financial and Operating Officer of Nest Labs, is Costa Rican, and she was listed in Worth Magazine’s article “New America” as one of 25 immigrants “… living and working in the U.S., whose successes are shaping the future of the country – and reminding us that the American Dream shouldn’t be a national nightmare”. Corrales devised and patented a new method for storing solar energy and co-founded the startup SunModular while a senior executive at Cisco where she worked for 18 years.

Emanuel Víquez will be the first blind golf player that will participate in the Italian Blind Open which will take place at Barlassina Country Club, Milan Italy, October 3rd – 7th, 2016. “It’s an honor to be part of this project, representing Costa Rica, in a tournament where for the first time the country has a representative, I am happy that I’ve been able to help Emanuel during the last two months, working on improving his technique, and improving his performance to see how well we can do in these three days of competition in Milan”, commented Christian Mora, Emanuel’s trainer.

Sofía Obando is the first Costa Rican and Central American in being accepted to the Sidney Conservatory of Music. She is 18 years old and plays the bassoon. Obando was not only admitted but granted a scholarship of 25%. Unfortunately in order to study in this institution she needs to cover the rest of the tuition and her expenses which add to approximately $80,000 USD. Obando requested help from the Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture but was told they have no resources to help her.
