Pataz Studio, a boutique 3D animation and computer graphic imaging (CGI) outfit from Costa Rica, is currently involved in the Gooseberry Open Movie Project, coordinated by Blender.

The Gooseberry Project consists of a feature film titled Cosmos Laundromat, which is written and produced by a coalition of more than 12 international animation studios around the world. Located in San Jose, Pataz Studio is the only firm from Costa Rica working on this project, the rest are from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, India, Indonesia, Israel, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The pilot trailer for Cosmos Laundromat, which you can see below, was recently released, and it has gotten the attention of Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, ILM, and Imageworks.

Here’s a synopsis of the project:

On a desolate island, a suicidal sheep named Franck meets his fate…in the form of a quirky salesman named Victor, who offers him the gift of a lifetime. The gift is many lifetimes, actually, in many different worlds – each lasting just a few minutes. In the sequel to the pilot, Franck will find a new reason to live…in the form of a bewitching female adventurer named Tara, who awakens his long-lost lust for life. But can Franck keep up with her?
