With an eye to improving the experience tourists have in the country, and to help visitors have a safe visit, Costa Rica’s tourism authorities sought assistance from the Organization for American States (OAS) in drafting a pilot plan.
Leaders from Costa Rica’s tourist police branch and the tourism institute (ICT) met last week with international experts to draw up an action plan to improve services for tourists, reported the Public Security Ministry in a press release.
The details of the initiative are guided by an evaluation done by the OAS during their visit to Costa Rica last week with government officials, and members of the business and local tourist communities.
“The idea is to structure a pilot plan for San José, and later to apply it throughout the country,” explained Fulvio Fernandez, police chief.
The initiative aims to “create an atmosphere of greater peace and tranquility for tourists, and help them have a better experience in the country,” according to Víctor Fernández, an ICT representative.
Based on last week’s meeting with the OAS, police and tourism authorities in Costa Rica said they will draw up an action plan to be implemented in San José soon.
