Mexico City, Apr 29 (EFE).– Two new videos aired on Mexican television show Rodrigo Vallejo, the son of a former governor of the western state of Michoacan, socializing with Caballeros Templarios drug cartel boss Servando Gomez Martinez.

Vallejo, who faces trial for being an accessory to a crime after the fact, is shown having drinks with Gomez Martinez, who has been arrested, and seen entering a prison without registering on the videos broadcast on Televisa’s Primero Noticias show.

The videos show Vallejo telling Gomez Martinez, known as “La Tuta,” that he did not like to leave home and that he had a swimming pool, and he offers to send a helicopter so the cartel boss can visit him.

The men discuss Jesus Reyna, who served as government secretary under former Gov. Fausto Vallejo.

Reyna, who served as interim governor of Michoacan, was arrested after a video showing him meeting with Gomez Martinez was made public.

Rodrigo Vallejo’s father, Fausto, served as the western state’s governor from 2012 to 2014.

The influence of the former governor’s son is highlighted on the videos, which show him entering a prison to visit an inmate.

Rodrigo Vallejo arrives at the prison with four other people and does not register, then he spends nearly 10 minutes speaking with a man who had been arrested a few hours earlier.

Vallejo was arrested in August 2014 after video of a meeting he had with Gomez Martinez, who was captured in February, was made public.

Vallejo was released on April 11 after posting bond of 7,000 pesos ($455).

A judge ruled that the charge of being an accessory to a crime after the fact was not serious enough to keep Vallejo, who has refused to provide prosecutors with information about the Caballeros Templarios, in prison.

The Caballeros Templarios cartel was created by former members of the Familia Michoacana criminal organization in December 2010.

The cartel, which deals in both synthetic and natural drugs, commits murders, stages kidnappings and runs extortion rackets that target business owners and transport companies in Michoacan.

The Caballeros Templarios cartel was led by Nazario Moreno, Enrique Plancarte Solis, Dionisio Loya Plancarte and Gomez Martinez.

Moreno and Plancarte Solis were killed, while Loya Plancarte was arrested.

Gomez Martinez is a former teacher who started smuggling marijuana into the United States in the 1990s. EFE
