Banana Azul offers something for practically everybody with 14 beautiful guest rooms – each one unique- in the main hotel, to the new Villas Banana Verde across the street which consists of four 2-story luxury accommodations with full kitchen and private plunge pools.

The resort echoes the Bohemian feel of Puerto Viejo, and is surrounded by wildlife.

Co-founder Colin Brownlee explains on the website how, after searching for a while, he came by the property where the hotel now stands:

“I needed to make a decision in that moment as I was leaving the following day as well as the person selling the property. Being an atheist, I decided to forgo my previous notions and asked for a spiritual sign. Within a few minutes two blue morpho butterflies flew across the property. I took it as the sign! We headed to the lawyers office and signed the paperwork. Still, to this day, whenever I see morpho butterflies, I stop what I’m doing and take notice.”

Next door is Casa Las Brisas, Banana Azul’s sister property, with four ocean-view rooms and rustic hardwood designs.

Throughout the properties there are a variety of outdoor living spaces, open-air kitchens, and tropical outdoor baths. All areas have wireless internet, and are in close proximity to the pool, beach, and restaurant.

The hotel grounds – lined with lush tropical gardens – have a stunning pool and a view of Playa Negra.

You can cook and dine in your private outdoor space, or hang out under a rancho on the beach, by the pool or at the Azul Beach Club, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily.
