Back in March, Jacó beach in Puntarenas inaugurated a 63 meter long ramp built with recycled plastic and that gives access to the beach to people with disabilities, Jacó became then the first fully accessible beach in Central America.

Now, the Cahuita National Park in Limón became the first National Park to be accessible for people with disabilities thanks to the project “Cahuita Accesible”.

The ramp in Cahuita is 180 meters long (590.55 ft.) and 120 meters wide (393.70 ft.) and was built with recycled plastic bottle lids. This walkway gives people in wheelchairs direct access to the shore.

The campaign to collect lids managed to gather 16 tons of plastic bottle lids.

This is now the second accessible beach in Central America. The National Park has trained personnel to assist people with disabilities and also amphibious wheelchairs for their use.
