The British Embassy announces that applications for 2014/15 Chevening Scholarships, the prestigious global scholarship programme of the UK government, are being accepted until November 8, 2013.

The Chevening scholarship programme operates in 118 countries worldwide, and this year will support over 600 established or emerging leaders. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any of the UK’s leading universities and cover the costs of tuition fees, return airfare and a monthly stipend.

Omar Quesada Arias, Costa Rica’s 2013/14 scholarship recipient, will be studying for a Master’s Degree at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

At a farewell lunch held in his honour at the residence of the British Ambassador, Sharon Campbell, Omar expressed his excitement at the opportunity to further his studies in the United Kingdom, explaining that, “For me the UK is the cradle of experimental and innovative architecture. In addition to its architectural wealth, it has become a point of convergence for many cultures, and by extension, a multitude of disciplines, all interacting with each other.”

The scholarships aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision-makers around the world.

Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to at least an upper second-class honours degree in the UK; achieve the minimum Chevening English language requirement; have completed at least two years’ work or equivalent experience before applying for a Chevening Scholarship and be committed to returning to Costa Rica after their time in the UK.

Applications must be completed online at: www.chevening.org.

Thank you to the UK Embassy in Costa Rica for the press release.
