Gennady Golovkin successfully defended his WBC/IBF/IBO world middleweight titles, he defeated Kell Brook in a 5th round stoppage. Triple G had dominated the majority of the rounds; Brook had a good performance in round 2, and continued to pull through, but GGG was the better man; Brook was not happy that his corner threw in the towel; many fans and some journalists in the twitter community considered it a controversial/horrible stoppage; however, watching the replay you could see Brook not throwing punches for at least 20 seconds before the corner stopped the fight, he was in trouble, whether or not he wants to admit it. Brook was taken to the hospital after the fight because he suffered some damage to his eye socket; this is Brook’s first loss as a professional boxer, he went up two weight divisions, (he was the IBF World welterweight champion), to face GGG and he deserves a lot of credit for that, especially because a lot of natural middleweight fighters keep dodging a fight with Golovkin. Gennady remains undefeated and improved to 36 wins (33 by KO), this is his 23rd consecutive KO win.
At The Forum in Inglewood, California, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez wrote another page in Nicaragua’s boxing history, winning the world title in a fourth weight division, surpassing his mentor, famous Nicaraguan boxer Alexis Arguello, who was a three-division world champion. Chocolatito moved up in weight to challenge WBC World Super Flyweight Champion Carlos “El Principe” Cuadras, and he came out victorious with a Unanimous Decision (UD) win. The Chocolatito-Cuadras fight was exciting and action-packed from the moment the bell rang announcing the first round to the moment the fight came to an end. Cuadras remained active the whole fight and gave Gonzalez quite some trouble, yet Chocolatito was more efficient with his punches and managed to dominate the fight. Chocolatito is regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter today, he has a perfect record of 46 wins (38 KO’s).
