With the purpose of promoting the use of alternative transportation methods, Costa Rica will host the first Bicycle Expo , an event that is very popular in other Latin American countries such as Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina.

Bicycle Expo (Expo Bici) hopes to promote the practice of urban cycling as an alternative method of transportation and an active lifestyle in the city, which also contributes to the decrease of traffic congestion and contamination associated with other forms of transportation, and in this way contribute with the environmental commitment the country has”, states the press release sent by the Center for Urban Sustainability, the non-governmental organization in charge of the event.

The event will be hosted at “La Casa del Cuño” part of the building known as La Antigua Aduana and it will have bicycles for sale, gear and different items needed for the practice of the sport, recreational activities, conferences with international guests and local representatives, competitions and more.

The organization is hoping to attract public of all ages and private companies that wish to be more “bicycle friendly”. This will also be a space to educate about infrastructure and different models that can be applied to the city to make it safer for bicycle users.

Andrea Gill, representative of the organizing company explained that they are also trying to open the market of urban bikes, since in Costa Rica there are a lot of options for mountain bikes but there are not a lot of alternatives for bicycles designed specifically for the city, which have more dynamic characteristics.

Entrance to the event will be free for all attending public.
