On July 11, 2018, the Policia de Control de Drogas (Drug Patrol Police PCD) arrested a mother, her boyfriend, and her son, for drug violation charges in Pavas de San Jose, on the San Juan de Rincon Grande Farm. The family called themselves, “Los Craqueros”.

This is the 22nd narco-family busted by the PCD this year, including busts in Guacimo, Coto Brus and La Cruz de Guanacaste. They have also dismantled 71 gangs – 11 conducting international drug trafficking, and 60 conducting local drug trafficking. Much of this success can be attributed to the free and confidential tipster hotline of the PCD. That number is 1176, or 1-800-800-0645.
Los Craqueros, easily one of the best- named narco-families in Costa Rica, consisted of the mother, a 34-year old Tica named Morales, her boyfriend, a 29-year old named Obanda, and Morales’ 16-year old son. The two adults had long rap sheets including drug transportation, drug smuggling, aggravated robbery, and lying to the authorities. They were operating their drug operation from near a community educational center.
PCD agents seized 146 packets of drugs in this bust – 72 of crack cocaine, 59 of marijuana, 15 of cocaine, and 10.5 grams of marijuana seeds.

Also seized were 764,700 colones, or $1,348, and $12 in cash, as well as two guns, a scale, and other drug paraphernalia.
The investigation of Los Craqueros began on January 25, 2018, and culminated with three arrests on July 11th. They had been denounced twice previously on the PCD tipline.
