American Airlines announced it will have two new flights from the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York to the Juan Santamaría Airport in Alajuela (SJO) and the Daniel Oduber Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

The route JFK-SJO will begin operations November 21, the flight will be daily, leaving JFK at 3:59 p.m. and arriving in SJO at 9:42 p.m. and leaving SJO at 11:03 to arrive at New York at 5:19 a.m.

The flight from JFK to LIR will begin operations December 21 and it will include one weekly flight, leaving NY at 7:00 a.m. and arriving at Liberia, Guanacaste at 10:55 a.m. and leaving LIR at 11:04 a.m. to arrive at JFK at 4:59 p.m.

“The contribution of American Airlines with its offer of almost 67 thousand new seats is an extraordinary news for the tourism sector and an important contribution to the national economic activity since tourism is its main engine”, commented María Amalia Rivero, Minister of Tourism.

“This year we will have great growth of our operations in Costa Rica, recently we also announced new flights from our biggest connection hub, Dallas/Fort Worth. We are very proud to continue to strengthen our footprint in Costa Rica, specially since we have been offering our services in this country for 30 years”, commented Rafael Sánchez, regional manager for American Airlines for Central America.

From January to May 2019 the country has had the arrival of 604850 US citizens by air, which represents a 6% increase in comparison to the same period of the previous year.
