Costa Rica celebrates Afro-Costa Rican heritage in August of each year, and this year’s activities are strongly focused on film. The Costa Rica Star has already written about the Flowers of the African Diaspora Film Festival currently playing at Cine Magaly in San Jose; now the Southern Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (CATCCAS in Spanish) invites you to enjoy part of the film festival in Puerto Viejo.

Two films will be screened in Puerto Viejo:

• Crooklyn on Friday, August 30^th at 7:15 p.m.
• Tula: The Revolt on Saturday, August 31^st at 7:30 p.m.

The films will be screened at the Garden of the Diaspora in Puerto Viejo, and there will be commentary by special guests who starred in each movie. After Crooklyn, Alfre Woodward and Delroy Lindo will talk about their experiences; Danny Glover will speak after Tula: The Revolt.

In addition to these fine films and the visit by Hollywood celebrities, Puerto Viejo will celebrate with Afro-Costa Rican dance, music, art, beauty, and delicious cuisine with activities at Casa de la Cultura and Restaurant Coconuts. As is often the case in Puerto Viejo, attendees will find English and Spanish widely spoken during the festival.
