Madame Butterfly, opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini will be presented for the third time by the National Lyric Company (CLN) at the Melico Salazar Theater in San José, Costa Rica.

The presentations are expected at the end of July, beginning of August, however dates have yet not been officially defined, the CLN has confirmed five presentations.

The production of the opera will have the musical direction of Costa Rican Ramiro Ramírez and the scenic direction will be handled by Argentinian Alejandro Chacón, It will also have the artistic support of the National Symphony Orchestra and 24 voices of the National Symphony Choir.

Madame Butterfly premiered at La Scala opera house in Milan on February 17, 1904. The work is one of the most frequently performed of all operas. It tells the tragic tale of Cio Cio San, a young Japanese geisha who falls in love with an American naval officer, with devastating consequences.

The CLN has presented this opera twice before, in 1998 and 2005.

The cast of singers that will be part of Madame Butterfly as well as the dates and ticket prices will be informed in the upcoming days.
