Taxi drivers joined the general strike today and are protesting by doing “tortuguismo”, basically driving slow enough so as to cause congestion in different sectors of the country, causing many transit problems, mainly in the General Cañas highway (Alajuela-San Jose).

Messages of angry drivers are flooding social media channels complaining against the red cabs and their practice, which is affecting hundreds of people today.

Taxi drivers are protesting once again against Uber while some of them are also protesting the fiscal plan. The Government had already met with representatives of this sector and had agreed to a 30-day term to come to an agreement. The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Rodolfo Méndez, expressed in an interview with Monumental news that he doesn’t consider this movement is justified, he also expressed that he will not feel pressured by the measures taken by the taxi drivers.

Streets in downtown San Jose are closed due to the general strike of the labor unions.
