Hanna Gabriels vs. Natasha Spence Confirmed May 27 at the BN Arena, Costa Rica

The date has been confirmed, Costa Rican first female world boxing champion, Hanna Gabriels will be defending her WBO/WBA Female World Super Welterweight Titles on Saturday, May 27; however, the venue has changed from the originally announced Pedregal Event Center to the BN Arena in Hatillo, San José.

Gabriels announced the fight on her Facebook page yesterday and asked for the support of her fans. Tickets are now available for purchase online through Publitickets.com in three different sections: Ringside for Ȼ15,000.00 (around $26.00); VIP Ȼ12,000.00 (close to $21.00) and General Ȼ7,000.00 (close to $12.50).

The fight will be televised live by channel 6 in Costa Rica. The fighter will be offering a public workout this Friday, May 12 in San José’s China Town (Barrio Chino) from 11 a.m. – 12 noon.

The Costa Rican is getting back in the ring 11 months after her last fight and she will face Natasha Spence, a Canadian with a record of 8 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. Spence is also coming back from over a year off since her last fight which she won by unanimous decision took place May 7, 2016.

Gabriels is 34-years-old, she became Costa Rica’s first world champion back in December of 2009 when she beat Nicaraguan Gabriela Zapata for the WBO World Female Welterweight belt, six months later she went up on weight to win the WBO World Female Super Welterweight title against Dominican Gardy Pena, Gabriels made three successful defenses of this belt and lost her fourth defense against Oxandia Castillo in February 2013.

Hanna got another opportunity to recover her title in December of 2014 when she faced Mexican Paty Ramírez who she managed to defeat by technical knockout; she has since defended this belt twice and added the WBA belt in the same weight division in June of 2016. These are the two titles she will be putting on the line as she faces Natasha Spence.
