Soul singer and actor Cuba Gooding Sr., father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr., was found dead inside a car in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California; he was 72 years-old.
Cuba Gooding Sr. was the lead singer for The Main Ingredient a soul band that had success during the 1970s; their biggest hits were Everybody Plays the Fool (1972) and Just Don’t Want to be Lonely (1974). He also pursued a solo career on Motown Records and his most successful song was Happiness is Just Around the Bend (1983).
Gooding was born in New York City, had four children, among them famed Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire, Pearl Harbor, among others); Omar Gooding actor and comedian, April Gooding and musician Tommy Gooding.
The cause of death is still under investigation although there were no indications of violence or a possible homicide at the scene.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office will run a toxicology report since alcohol and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.
Gooding Sr. was turning 73 in just one week.
