The Costa Rica tourism sector has a new set of tools to gather, process and provide data, statistics and information regarding the behavior of the market.

The Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) informed that as of this Thursday, April 6, they are making available through their webpage (www.ICT.go.cr), valuable information such as statistical analysis, financial analysis, surveys, figures of the tourism sector and studies.

Generating constant updated and relevant information like projections and comparisons for the different agents involved in the tourism sector, is the purpose of this initiative.

The project includes four tools for Big Data Management: Review Pro (allows you to combine online reputation & guest satisfaction survey analytics), OAG (provides data on flight schedules and status), information and updates on spatial information through GPS, and finally STR (formerly known as Smith Travel Research, which tracks and provides data from the global hotel industry). Soon they expect to also make available Mabrian and Master Card (fullcycle travel analytics and destination insights).

Users will be able to obtain information faster and in a more simple way regarding hotels, restaurants, beach destinations, adventure traveling, ecotourism, weather conditions, national parks, activities, among others.

The implementation of these tools will allow the country to understand its market better, its potential, and it will help define strategies and align objectives and goals through the use of technology.

We don’t pretend to substitute the analysis and research that is done by the private sector. The idea is to continue with a process to improve market intelligence and that companies can take advantage of this information to make their decisions and provide a better service; with this in mine we hope to soon develop the Tourism Intelligence Center within the ICT, which will be available for public and private users”, explained Mauricio Ventura, Minister of Tourism.

The tourism industry in Costa Rica generates almost $4 million in foreign currency, it represents 50% of the service exports of the country.

Costa Rica also takes second place when It comes to the number of days tourists stay in the country, averaging 12,2 nights, and only behind New Zealand that averages 20 nights.
ICT expects that the arrival of tourists reaches 3.4 million by 2021.
