Costa Rica’s male FutSal National Team defeated Salomon Islands 4-2 in their first game of the FIFA FutSal World Championship Colombia 2016.  The first goal came at minute 18 of the first half by La Sele’s captain Alejandro Paniagua.  The second half included goals by Carlos Chavez and a penalty in favor of Costa Rica was executed by Paniagua; with the score 3-0, a penalty came in favor of Salomon Islands and it was perfectly done by Ragomo; however Costa Rican Erick Brenes managed a fourth point and as the game was coming to an end Bule scored for Salomon Islands to make the final score 4-2. Costa Rica had many opportunities to score and didn’t capitalize on them. The next game for Costa Rica is scheduled for Thursday at 5p.m. local time against Kazakhstan.

Rio 2016 Summer Paralympics

Costa Rican swimmer Camila Haase already knows the competitors she will be facing this week:

Sept. 14  Women’s 100m Breaststroke (6:37 a.m. Costa Rica time): She will compete in Heat 2, Lane 2, and will face: Portugal’s Joana Calado, UK’s Claire Cashmore , Canada’s Katarina Roxon and China’s Jialing Xu

Sept. 15 Women’s 100m Butterfly  (6:36 a.m. Costa Rica time): TBD

Sept. 16 Women’s 100m Backstroke  (6:00 a.m. Costa Rica time): Camila will compete in Heat 2, Lane 7, this time she’ll face Italian Francesca Secci, Irish Ellen Keane, Spain’s Nuria Marques and New Zealand’s Tupou Neiufi.

16 year old Camila is up against tough opposition, her best times are for 100m breaststroke: 01:43:21; in 100m butterfly 01:26:52, and in 100m backstroke 01:24:72.

Athlete Johanna Solano, former Miss Costa Rica 2011 and now TV presenter at Mexico’s Televisa took first place in the Vietnam Triathlon yesterday, Sunday 11^th in the Female Category 25-34 (age group).

Costa Rica’s midfielder and La Sele’s (Costa Rica’s National Soccer Team) captain Bryan Ruiz who plays for the Portuguese Club Sporting CP is excited to play against Spain’s Real Madrid this Wednesday, September 14 at the Santiagao Bernabeu stadium in the  first game of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.  Costa Rica’s forward Joel Campbell also plays for the Sporting CP on loan from Arsenal; Campbell,  scored one of the goals for the Sporting CP this weekend against Morerirense F.C. and is hoping he will be considered for the game against Real Madrid this Wednesday. Keylor Navas is still recovering from his foot surgery and is expected to play again with Real Madrid September 24^th against Las Palmas.
