Tomorrow, Thursday July 28 at 6:00pm, CEO Dan Price of Gravity Payments in the U.S. will speak at the Universidad Latina’s auditorium in San Pedro (San José).
The talk entitled “The Force of Gravity” will be given in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish; it’s free and open to the public.
Price and his brother founded the financial services and credit-card processing company in Seattle, Washington in 2004; ten years later it was generating $3.5 million dollars in annual profits, stated an ULatina press release on the event.
The New York Times on July 31 last year reported on Price’s bold move to create a liveable wage for all Gravity Payment employees by creating a flat $70,000 salary for all 130 employees over the next three years. The announcement caught the media’s eye and earned Price the title of “World’s Best CEO”.
The move however meant he and two other employees took pay cuts, causing the two others whose wages were to be lowered to leave the firm.
Dan Price will speak tomorrow at the Universidad Latina about workplace strategies to foster wage equality and social welfare, including the unlimited paid leave which his company also offers.
In his talk he will discuss “social-oriented business models that help firms grow organically, and explore the results of the $70,000 annual wage strategy and its sustainability,” said ULatina.
