A visitor from the United States enjoying his honeymoon in Costa Rica made a daring water rescue to save a man from drowning.

According to the Facebook Timeline of the Volusia Surf Lifesaving Association, the rescue took place recently while Billy Geno and Christi Carr, newlyweds from Florida, were celebrating their honeymoon at a beach resort in Costa Rica.

A couple of digital videos shared on Facebook show Mr. Geno quickly swimming out to help a man who was having a hard time staying afloat in the surf. It so happens that Mr. Geno is a lifeguard in Volusia County, located in the eastern part of Central Florida; this is the home of the world-famous Daytona Beach.

Even though Mr. Geno was more than 2,000 kilometers away from his lifeguard station, he jumped to action and quickly swam out to help the man, whom he brought back to shore. According to a Facebook post shared by Mr. Geno’s wife, there were only five people on the secluded beach at the time of the incident.

It is not clear exactly where the rescue took place; however, the smartphone videos of the incident seem to portray a beach in the Gold Coast of Costa Rica, which runs from Guanacaste down to the Central Pacific shoreline. Strong rip currents have been reported at various Gold Coast beaches over the last few weeks.

Along with the videos, the Volusia Surf Life Association posted the following message:

Our guards are always looking towards the water, poised to save a life. Even on their honeymoon! Here’s a vid of Volusia guard, Billy Geno, making a lifesaving water rescue while on his honeymoon in Costa Rica. Good job, Billy, and congrats!
