One of the most talked-about commercials aired during Super Bowl 50 was the blistering trailer for the upcoming Jason Bourne, the fifth sequel in the successful film franchise. Actor Matt Damon returns to the starring role, which he last portrayed in 2007 with the Bourne Ultimatum.

Acclaimed British filmmaker Paul Greengrass is also back in the director’s chair, which is good news for fans of his hyperkinetic cinematography and extensive action scenes. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mr. Damon explained that the upcoming Bourne film will encompass various storytelling details that reflect the shaky state of world affairs of the last few years:

Since 2007, so much has changed. There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties – things that are slowly coming to into the zeitgeist as we start to grapple with what the future is going to look like. And so those are kind of somewhere in the stew of our story.

Interestingly, Mr. Damon mentioned that the first three films reflect the zeitgeist that unfolded during the mandate of former United States President George W. Bush. There will be new villains to explore and geopolitical issues to tackle. Here{s the exciting first trailer of Jason Bourne, which should be in theaters by late July:
