For most people in Costa Rica, the holiday season means being able to take time off from work. Such is not the case for those employed in the online sports betting industry, which happens to be very busy during this time of the year.
From the end of the NFL regular season to the NBA Christmas Day action and from the UEFA Champions League matches to the NCAA college bowl games, late December and early January are very active for sportsbooks in Costa Rica.
Two of the busiest days for Costa Rica sportsbooks happen to be New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day; the reason for this increased activity is the schedule of U.S. college football bowl games, which play during the last week of the year through January 2nd. Although college bowl games have unfolded all this week, the big days are today and tomorrow.
According to IDSca.com, a leading Pay-Per-Head (PPH) provider based in Costa Rica, the betting volume is higher for the bowl games that take place on January 1st, although this season has brought increased interest since the NCAA is testing a playoff format. Based on the wagers collected thus far, here are some interesting projections made by football fans:
- Outback Bowl: Northwestern 21 – Tennessee 17
- Citrus Bowl: Michigan 23 – Florida 17
- Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State 41 – Notre Dame 27
- Rose Bowl: Stanford 28 – Iowa 24
- Sugar Bowl: Oklahoma State 31 – Mississippi 30
