San Francisco, Aug 27 (EFE).– Tech giant Microsoft said that since the launch of Windows 10, the latest version of its operating system, less than a month ago, the software has been installed in more than 75 million devices.

“More than 75 million devices running Windows 10 – and growing every day,” Microsoft vice president Yusuf Mehdi said in a Twitter post.

“Windows 10 is running in 192 countries, virtually every country on the planet,” Mehdi said, adding that digital assistant Cortana had told more than 500,000 jokes in response to users’ “tell me a joke” requests.

Microsoft offered the upgrade of its operating system for free in late July, aiming to entice 1 billion Windows 10 users over the next three years.

The system was installed in about 24 million devices in the first 24 hours after the launch on July 29.

Among the offerings on Windows 10 are the new Edge Web browser and a version for computers of Cortana, the digital assistant that competes with Google’s Now and Apple’s Siri.

In addition to answering users’ questions, opening apps and recording voice memos, Cortana “has a sense of humor” and is able to tell jokes.

Windows 10 brings back the Start Menu, which allows users to access the most used apps and functions, and had been removed from the previous version of the operating system, the unpopular Windows 8.

The latest version of Windows also comes with the option to reorganize icons and change their size on the screen.

Users can now access devices through digital recognition of their face, iris or fingerprint, doing away with the need to remember and type in a password.

In April, Microsoft said it expected about $15 billion in revenues from the sale of Windows 10.

The company charges fees to computer manufacturers who install Windows in new devices and also makes money selling software to big companies and government agencies. EFE
