Washington, Aug 26 (EFE).– A gunman killed a television reporter and a cameraman working for a CBS affiliate in southwest Virginia while they were doing a live report on Wednesday morning, the television station said.

Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, who worked for WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, were shot and killed by an unidentified man at around 6:46 a.m., but the motive for the shooting has not been determined.

U.S. Web sites and television networks showed images of the shooting at a shopping center in Moneta, a rural town about 350 kilometers (218 miles) southwest of Washington.

The images show Parker conducting an interview when shots are heard, the camera falls to the ground and keeps recording as screams are heard until the transmission is interrupted.

Then, television images show colleagues in the studio apparently stunned.

It appears as if Ward was able to record the assailant’s image.

Parker, 24, was a native of Virginia, and Ward, 27, had worked for the station since 2011.

Franklin County police said another unidentified person was wounded and officers were searching the area to locate the gunman.

WDBJ-TV director Jeffrey Marks told CNN that he was not aware of any threats against the victims.

Moneta is a quiet stop on the southeast side of Route 122 some 40 kilometers (25 miles) east of Roanoke, where WDBJ-TV is based, and the Bridgewater Plaza is surrounded by marinas on the shores of Smith Mountain Lake. EFE.
