The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica herewith extends a message of solidarity and condolences in the wake of the shooting perpetrated earlier today at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada. This terror attack took place while Prime Minister Harper and many other government officials, as well as legislators and visitors, were present.

 

The Ministry also wishes to extend solidarity on behalf of Costa Rica to the family and frineds of Corporal Nathan Cirillo of the Canadian Forces. Corporal Cirillo was honorably guarding the National War Memorial when he was fatally shot in an act that is being characterized as a terror strike. The Ministry repudiates all terroristic actions and threats that attempt to diminish the strength of a solid democracy such as Canada.

 

Finally, the Ministry wants to remind the people of Costa Rica that the consulate in Canada is in touch with  law enforcement officials therefrom, who have not indicated any Ticos being harmed during this incident.
