Complaints from Costa Rican tourism businesses have been constant since the crisis of 2008-2009, but now a survey shows that business is not so bad.
A statement from the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) reads:
Study reveals industry perception in terms of profitability, employment and demand for tourist services
– 69% of respondents maintained their staffing levels.
– 70% of employers believe that demand was much higher before the global crisis of 2008.
November 2012. Around nine out of ten tourism operators say the profitability of their business is “fair” to “very good”, 69% think that they will keep the number of employees on their payroll and 70% perceive that visitation was higher in the period before the crisis.
The above findings correspond to the results of the first study on tourism developed by the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR), conducted during the third week of October with owners, managers and directors of 120 companies in the areas of lodging, tour operators, agencies, car rentals and restaurants in of all Tourist Planning Units in the country.
“The first edition of the Study on Tourism Activity, born from the need to know about the reality of the tourism industry, since, in the absence of official monitoring the current situation lends itself to speculation regarding these issues, which are particularly of great interest to the industry”, said Juan Carlos Ramos, President of CANATUR.
The study monitored the perception of entrepreneurs on three main issues: profitability, projected employment and demand for tourism services, which are detailed in the statement by CANATUR.
