Aeris Holdings, administrator of the Juan Santamaria Airport in Costa Rica announced the investment of $3.8 million in technology to reinforce security, monitoring and surveillance of passengers and flights while improving efficiency.
20 self-service check-in kiosks, a new operations and communication center , the creation of a crisis response room, and free WiFi are part of what has been implemented at the country’s main international airport, a process of digitalization that other airports in the world have already undergone.
“We are on route to becoming a digital airport, agile in the response times and effective in all other actions. For instance, in the operations center we have incorporated the CCTV circuit to alert on who, when and where an unauthorized door is opened; in addition, assertive decisions are made in the administration and equitable operational resources of the airport”, stated Juan Belliard, Director of Operations of Aeris to national daily La Republica.
The operations and communications center was renovated and equipped with screens and state-of-the-art technology that allows personnel to maintain an efficient communication, monitor and coordinate the operations of the terminal.
“The investment in technology helps improve the service not just to passengers but also to airlines”, assured Belliard.
The crisis response room offers a safe and comfortable space for representatives of different institutions to meet when a critical situation that affects the airport’s operation takes place.
The installation of self-safe kiosks has allowed passengers to go from a process that used to take as much as 15 minutes to one that takes less than 1 minute.
Aeris also announced the opening of a tender of $1.6 million to setup free WiFi in the whole terminal. They also plan to install 5 more check-in kiosks as well as an automatic and smart luggage system.
