Miami, Aug 20 (EFE).– Divers from a Florida treasure hunting company have recovered 350 gold coins worth $4.5 million from the wreck of an 18th-century Spanish galleon off Vero Beach.

Less than a month after a family found 60 gold coins worth more than $1 million using a metal detector, the 1715 Fleet-Queens Jewels LLC, which holds the rights to several areas containing the wrecks of the 1715 Spanish Fleet, said it made a new discovery.

“Over 350 gold coins including 9 Royals were recovered on July 30 & 31. This amazing recovery occurred on the actual 300th Anniversary” of the fleet’s sinking, the company said in a statement posted on its Web site.

The fleet was sailing from Havana to Spain when it went down off Florida during a hurricane, killing about 1,000 people.

Some of the gold, silver and other items on the sea floor were recovered after the storm, but historians and treasure hunters say gold and silver worth millions of dollars is still on the bottom of the ocean.
