Nicole Birkner Alier is just 17 years old, but she makes it a point to live her life to the fullest and give her best effort in everything she takes on.
Birkner attends Lincoln High-School where she is preparing to graduate from the International Baccalaureate program, she send her application to several Universities in the United States hoping to receive a positive response from at least one of them, instead, she was greatly surprised when she got confirmation not from one but from nine universities, some of which even offered her a scholarship.
This young woman wants to become a computer engineer, and now she will be able to make her choice between: Stanford (CA), MIT (MA), Columbia (NY), Cornell (NY), Duke (NC), Yale (CT), UPenn (PA), Darmouth (NH) and Brown (RI).
“I never imagined being able to accomplish this. A lot of good students apply to these universities. I was hoping to get admitted to one of the top ones, but I never imagined this”, she told national newspaper La Nacion.
Although her initial inclination was for MIT or Stanford, Birkner also found Columbia’s proposal attractive ash they offered her a scholarship that includes $10,000.00 for research; while Duke offered her a scholarship that includes her tuition, materials and living expenses.
Aside from her excellent grades and being active in youth organizations, Birkner has taken part of several extra-curricular activities; in 2013 she created “Fresquiticos”, natural healthy sodas elaborated from locally produced fruit; with this project she participated in the TEDx Pura Vida 2017 conferences.
This company won the second place in the Diamond Challenge in Delaware last year and obtained a prize of $6,500.00.
She is however a normal teenager, she goes out with her friends, she has been taking dancing lessons since the age of 3 and continues today.
Certainly an outstanding young lady that will continue to make her country proud. Birkner will begin her college education in the U.S in whichever university she picks, in 2021.
