A small boat transporting 11 tourists and its captain wrecked Saturday afternoon close to San Lucas Island in the Nicoya Gulf.

According to information given by the Ministry of Security, the tourists and the captain were rescued and none of them suffered any injuries, they were taken to the Coopeinpesa dock in Puntarenas.

The coastguard of Caldera and the naval unit of the firefighters were in charge of the rescue.

All passengers had life vests which made the rescue work a lot easier. Authorities are urging small boats and tour operators to consider the strong winds affecting the country which result in big waves and dangerous sailing conditions.

Tourists should also be weary of this and make sure they are traveling with a responsible tour operator, confirm the boats have life vests and that they don’t exceed the maximum passenger capacity.
